Today’s historic photo takes us back to 1990, and features formidable West Coast bass angler Gary Dobyns nearly 20 years before he created his well-known rod company. In the write-up, Gary and his partner Ron Hillock had just dominated the West Coast Bass Team Tournament of Champions on Shasta Lake with a two-day total of 23.88 pounds of bass, four pounds better than their closest competition. They bested a field of roughly 130 teams that had qualified for the event. In the process, the guys picked up a matching pair of fully rigged Yamaha-powered Ranger 333V bass boats.
