By Oct. 1986, The Midwest Angler was in its 4th year of production, airing in 9 states and reaching over 22 million anglers. Jack became a regular speaker at boat and sport shows around the Midwest.
“The Classic was an awesome event. I learned a lot about the upcoming Classic from Stan (Sloan) and Bobby (Murray) because they’d both fished the first Classic. We only had one day of practice and were limited to 10 pounds of tackle.
“The first day of the tournament I only boated two fish,” he said. “I lost a bunch of them. The second day, though, I got on them really good and brought in 7 fish (8-fish limit) that went 32-15. That catch included a 7-pound largemouth and another big smallie I’d lost the day before.”
