The first, and probably the craziest, was the “ultra-sensitive” line-tie made from graphite. This concept was supposed to increase sensitivity and allow you to feel a fish when it hit.

One of the craziest ideas ever to come out was the Roland Martin-backed Helicopter Lure. Another would be the Ron Popeil Pocket Fisherman. Both are obvious entries for a Darwin-esque fishing award.

But what this page does offer is a good look at the Okie-Aerator, developed by none other than the first B.A.S.S. Life Member, Don Butler. When Ray went to catch-and-release in the 1974 timeframe, aerated livewells became a must and Butler’s aeration system was the solution.
