Guido Hibdon won first place in the local Wal-Mart Big Fish contest in 1976. He'd later go on to become one of the best bass anglers in the country. Image the Miller County Autogram-Sentinel, April 8, 1976.

There’s lots to like about this 1976 Wal-Mart Fishing ad, but nothing as good as the photo of the week’s largemouth bass winner in their Fishin’ Contest, Guido Hibdon, of Versailles, MO.  Guido was still just a guide at this point when he landed this double-digit Missouri bass.  But all that was about to change over the next couple years.  Guido would start entering a few big local bass tournaments, and his win streak was nothing short of phenomenal. Here’s the run down;

1978 – Guido wins the BCA (Bass Casters Assoc.)-Schlitz Pro-Am Bass Tournament on Lake of the Ozarks, and receives $4,500 cash, including a $2,000 Schlitz bonus award, a boat and trailer.

1979 – Guido wins the BCA-Schlitz Pro-Am again, this time pocketing $6,200, including a $3,000 valued 1500 VEE Bass Cat Boat and Silvertrail Trailer, $1,200 cash, plus a $2,000 Schlitz Cash Bonus Award.

1980 – Missouri Invitational B.A.S.S. Tournament win $10,500 including a $5,500 bass boat.

1981 – Missouri Invitational B.A.S.S. Tournament $11,700 including $5,000 cash and a $6,700 Ranger bass boat.

Guido would go on to win 3 other BASS events, including the 1988 Bassmaster Classic, along with a pair of AOY titles (1990, 1991), and a pair of FLW Pro Circuit titles ($125,000 each).
