Here’s a quick look back at Paul Elias’ first Bassmaster win taken from a news clipping out of a local Louisiana newspaper. Elias won the Bassmaster Virginia Invitational held at Lake Gaston on April 25-27, 1979. Here’s what the paper had to say.

Elias caught 14 bass totaling 46 pounds, 12 ounces, and outfished some 250 other fishermen from 27 states in that tournament. He will also compete in a similar tournament on Kentucky Lake May 23-25, and the total prize in that meet will be $62,500, if the 250-man field is filled by May 9.
